B2B · for enterprise and mid-market teams

Your buyers don’t decide alone. And one of them isn’t human.

A B2B purchase involves multiple stakeholders, and they build their shortlist before they tell you the deal exists. What changed is where that list gets built. It is forming inside an answer engine now — before a form, before a call, before anyone at your company knows the deal is real.

A considered purchase was never a decision. It is a negotiation between people with different jobs, different fears and different reasons to say no. Now it is also a negotiation with the system they asked first.

What changed

Five seats read your website. The sixth one asks an answer engine first.

The committee model has held for decades. What broke is the order of operations. The technical evaluator no longer opens twelve tabs — they ask an answer engine to compare four vendors and read what comes back. Procurement asks for alternatives and gets a list assembled without you in it. The skeptic checks whether you are real before your champion has said your name out loud.

Which means the first thing that evaluates you is not a person. It is a system deciding whether your company is a resolvable entity worth naming. If it cannot identify you, it names a competitor who is easier to describe.

We built AIRO — AI Result Optimization — for this. Answer engine optimization is part of it, but the harder problem is being identifiable at all. It is the entity, schema and content architecture that determines whether an answer engine can name you accurately, to the right buyer, in the right category. Not a keyword exercise. A structural one.

How AIRO works ⟶
The committee

Six seats at your buyer’s table.Six different reasons to say no.

This is the model your work gets built against, and it holds across payments, healthcare, cybersecurity and data centers alike. Each seat asks a different question about your company. Answer only the champion and you leave five objections in a room you are not in.

01The economic buyer
CEO or CFO

“What does this return, and when?”

Why this seat says no

An unclear payback period. If the case cannot be defended without you in the room, it does not get defended at all.

What we build for it

A business case they can carry into a budget meeting alone — costed, sequenced, and with every assumption written down where a CFO can argue with it.

02The technical evaluator
CTO or head of engineering

“Will this actually work in our stack?”

Why this seat says no

Integration risk they cannot size. A vendor who cannot describe the architecture loses this seat in a single question.

What we build for it

The actual architecture, systems named, plus an honest answer about what happens at the seams and who owns the migration.

03The champion
The VP whose number this fixes

“Will this make me look right?”

Why this seat says no

Nothing — this seat wants it. But it cannot sign, and it loses momentum the first time it cannot answer a peer’s objection.

What we build for it

Ammunition for rooms you will never enter: the comparison, the objection answers, and a one-pager that survives being forwarded without you.

04Procurement
Sourcing or vendor management

“Is this the right price and are the terms safe?”

Why this seat says no

Single-source risk, auto-renewal, and anything that reads like lock-in on a second read.

What we build for it

Clean terms, a competitor you are willing to be compared against by name, and no surprise in year two.

05Security and legal
CISO, counsel, compliance

“Does this expose us?”

Why this seat says no

A vendor who treats compliance as a closing formality. This seat has veto power and uses it late, when reversing costs the most.

What we build for it

WCAG 2.1 AA, audited, not assumed. Subprocessor lists and data-flow diagrams on file before discovery, not promised during it. AI governance documented — what models touch your data, what they retain, and what they do not.

Trust and procurement ⟶
06The skeptic
A peer with no stake, consulted late

“Why this, and why now?”

Why this seat says no

Being surprised. This seat kills deals at the final meeting, in a room you are not in, on principle.

What we build for it

To have met you already — in a search result, an answer engine, a comparison page — before your champion ever said your name out loud.

Here is the uncomfortable part. Five of these six seats form a view of your company before anyone fills in a form, and ninety-five percent of the time the vendor who won was already on the shortlist the day the group first met. The selection happened before the selection process started.

What that means for the work

Three moves, and the order is the strategy.

Each move unblocks two of the seats above. Arm your champion before you are on the list and you have given them nothing to defend. Route a committee you never reached and you have built plumbing with no water in it.

01

Get on the day-one list

Unblocks  The technical evaluator · The skeptic

The shortlist forms before an RFP exists, and increasingly inside an answer engine rather than a search engine. These two seats reach a verdict on you with nobody from your company in the room.

  • One brand entity the engines can resolve, on every page
  • Pages that answer the questions buyers actually type
  • The comparison page they search for by name, competitors included
  • Citation tracking across five engines, monthly
02

Arm the champion

Unblocks  The economic buyer · The champion

The person who wants you has to defend you in rooms you will never enter, to a buyer who needs a payback period. Everything they carry has to survive being read without you.

  • A one-pager your champion can send without a call attached
  • The objection each seat raises, answered on paper
  • A business case with the assumptions visible
  • RFP answers already written, reviewed and on file
03

Route it without losing the question

Unblocks  Procurement · Security and legal

A committee arrives in fragments, over months, through different channels. The two seats that can kill this at the final meeting want clean answers already on file rather than promised on request.

  • HubSpot built or migrated, with the lifecycle stages that match your sale
  • Scoring that reflects the committee, not one contact
  • Attribution that survives an eighteen-month cycle
  • ERP and custom API work, so nothing reconciles twice

Most B2B marketing does the second of those three well and the other two barely at all. That is the whole reason a champion can be genuinely enthusiastic and the deal still dies in April.

The other half

The executive evaluating you bought running shoes on Sunday.

Those standards did not reset on Monday morning. The reason this side of the firm moves quickly is that the other side is a consumer business, where a confusing page costs the sale in eight seconds and there is no salesperson standing by to recover it.

Feed-level QA learned where a sold-out product must never surface became the exclusion testing behind a regulated platform’s compliance checks. Patterns learned on shoppers became the routing layer inside a payments platform. Same team, both directions, and neither client paid to have it invented twice.

Not a chatbot on your homepage

AI that does a job someone was already doing badly.

Most agency AI is a demo. The work that survives contact with a committee is narrower and less glamorous: a system that removes a specific bottleneck, inside the platform you already run, with a paper trail security can read.

AI Result Optimization (AIRO)

Entity architecture, schema and content built so answer engines can identify and cite you correctly. Measured monthly across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Proprietary to us, and the reason we can tell you where you stand before you hire anyone.

AI inside your CRM

HubSpot lifecycle logic, scoring that reflects a committee rather than one contact, and custom assistants built against your own data rather than bolted beside it.

Custom AI in the product

A system that removes a specific bottleneck, inside the platform you already run, connected to the others so a signal in one place changes what happens in another. And you own it — models, code and data in your accounts, under your contracts. An agency that keeps the keys has built itself a renewal, not built you an asset.

Useful whether or not you call us

How your buyer builds a shortlist now, and the four things that decide whether you are on it.

Ninety-five percent of closed-won deals were already on the list the buyer generated on day one, which makes the list itself the competition. Here is the order we would fix it in, whoever does the work. Run step one yourself in an afternoon: twenty real buyer questions, five runs each across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and count the times your company is named.

01

Resolve the entity before you write anything

An answer engine cannot recommend a company it cannot identify. That means one Organization node with a stable @id, present on every page rather than only the homepage, carrying sameAs edges to LinkedIn, Crunchbase, G2, your partner directory listings and every profile you actually control. Replace “the team” with named people and Person nodes. An unnamed team is not a resolvable entity, and an unresolvable entity gets replaced in the answer by a competitor who is.

02

Write the comparison you are afraid of

The question that decides most shortlists is “X versus Y,” and the page that answers it is almost never yours. Publish an honest comparison naming your two strongest competitors, including the cases where they are the better choice. You will lose a few deals you were going to lose anyway and win the ones where the fit was real, and you become the source the assistant quotes on your own category.

03

Answer per seat, not per persona

Personas describe who someone is. Seats describe what they have to defend. Procurement needs terms and an alternative; security needs a subprocessor list and a data-flow diagram on request rather than on discovery; the skeptic needs to have met you before your champion said your name. Build one asset per seat and the champion stops carrying the deal alone.

04

Instrument the handoff, not the form fill

Most B2B attribution breaks at the seam between the conversation and the CRM: a chat or a form captures intent, and the rep receives a name with the original question stripped off. Pass the question through as a property on the contact record and route on it. It is a day of work in HubSpot and it changes the first sentence of every sales call.

None of this fixes a product problem, and it will not rescue a category you are genuinely fourth in. It decides whether a buyer who would have chosen you ever finds out you exist.

Depth, not breadth

Healthcare was not a vertical we added. It is the reason we built an advisory board before we built a deck.

Before taking healthcare work seriously, we assembled a multidisciplinary Healthcare Advisory Board: executives from Walgreens, CVS and Dignity Health, alongside physician consultants, policymakers and leaders from the Health Record Banking Alliance, the American Medical Informatics Association and the National Association of Anesthesiologists, with faculty from Stanford, NYU, ASU and Columbia. For two years, that group shaped how we work before we sold a single healthcare engagement.

That is why the partnerships lasted. TeamHealth has been a client for seven years — dozens of sites for acquired practices, a Sitecore-to-WordPress migration, a master template their internal IT team runs themselves, and UX reviews that reached 74% company-wide adoption in year two. Leads more than doubled year over year.

Questions we get before the first call

Tagged by the seat that usually asks them.

The skepticWhat is Pyxl?

A B2B marketing, engineering and AI agency. Founded 2008, independently owned, principal-led, with offices in Nashville and Charleston and clients across the country. We build brand, messaging, websites, CRM, demand and AI systems for enterprise and mid-market teams in payments, healthcare, cybersecurity, data centers, software and manufacturing. 454 B2B clients across 19 industries. The technical evaluatorHow do we get named when buyers research with AI answer engines?

Measure it first. Twenty real buyer questions from your category, five runs each across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, counting how often you are named and who gets named instead. Most companies have never run this and are surprised. Then it is structural: one resolvable Organization entity across every page, named people rather than “the team,” and a comparison page for the “X versus Y” question that decides most shortlists. We call the discipline AIRO. You can run the measurement yourself, or we will run it free.

The economic buyerWhat does an engagement cost?

Projects generally run from around $5,000 for a focused piece of work to $300,000 and up for a full brand, website and CRM build. Ongoing retainers run from about $5,000 to $100,000 a month depending on scope. Either way, you get a fixed number in writing before anything starts, scoped against your actual instance rather than a rate card.

ProcurementHow long does a B2B website redesign take?

Most run twelve to twenty weeks end to end: discovery and information architecture, then design and build in parallel tracks, then CRM and integration work, then QA. A CRM migration or a legacy integration extends it, and we say which weeks moved and why rather than quoting a single number and missing it quietly.

Security and legalHow do you handle security, compliance and procurement review?

We build to WCAG 2.1 AA and audit against it rather than asserting it. Subprocessor lists and data-flow diagrams exist before you ask. On AI specifically: we document what models touch your data, what they retain, and what they do not, because that is the question your security team will ask second. We have worked inside regulated environments — healthcare, payments, data centers — where a wrong number published is a compliance event, not a typo.

The technical evaluatorDo you work in HubSpot?

Yes, as an Onboarding Accredited Partner, and not just campaign sends. Lifecycle stages that match how your sale actually works, scoring that reflects a committee rather than one contact, attribution that survives an eighteen-month cycle, custom API and ERP work so nothing reconciles twice, and AI built against your own CRM data rather than bolted beside it.

The economic buyerHow do you measure anything on an eighteen-month cycle?

By tracking the pipeline stage and the seat, not the last click. Every touch — a comparison page read, a resource downloaded, a question asked of an answer engine — gets written onto the contact record as it happens, so eighteen months later the record still shows which seat engaged and on what, instead of collapsing to whichever channel happened to close it.

The championWho will we actually be working with?

A senior strategist who stays on the account for its duration, plus the specialists the scope actually needs — not a rotating bench. Everyone on the engagement is employed here, in Nashville or Charleston, and you get their names before you sign rather than after.

The economic buyerShould we hire an agency or build in-house?

Both, usually — and honestly, we are the wrong answer for some of this. An in-house team knows your product and your politics in a way we never will. What is hard to hire for is the range: an entity architecture problem one week, a HubSpot lifecycle rebuild the next, a comparison page the week after. If you need one thing consistently, hire for it. If you need six things intermittently, that is where we are cheaper than headcount.

The skepticWhat size companies do you work with?

Mostly mid-market to enterprise — the roster runs from growing regional providers to Medtronic and Merative. What we screen for isn’t size, it’s a real committee: if six seats have to agree before you sign, we’ve almost certainly built for a company at your scale before.

ProcurementWhat if we already have an agency?

Then we probably start with one seat, not all six. Most of our retainers run alongside an existing team, taking the piece that team cannot carry — platform architecture, AI systems, entity and schema work — and handing back documentation your people can run day to day. Replacing an incumbent wholesale is rare and not usually the fastest way to fix what is actually broken.
