Role overview

The Senior Ecommerce Growth Strategist is responsible for leading comprehensive ecommerce strategies for Pyxl’s marketing partner portfolio, owning the full customer lifecycle from acquisition through retention. Your primary focus areas are email marketing, lifecycle automation, content strategy, and conversion optimization — all executed with the expectation that you’re using AI to work faster and think bigger than a traditional strategist could.

This role requires a blend of analytical thinking, creativity, and deep ecommerce marketing expertise. While the primary focus is ecommerce clients, you may also support non-ecommerce clients across Pyxl’s broader portfolio, bringing the same strategic rigor to a variety of industries and business models. You’ll act as the primary marketing point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring alignment between their goals and the agency’s deliverables alongside the designated Project Manager.

A note on AI: This isn’t a role where AI is a nice-to-have or a line item in your job description. At Pyxl, AI is embedded in how we do the work. We expect you to use AI daily — for research, analysis, content development, segmentation logic, reporting, and anything else where it makes you more effective. You bring the expertise and judgment. AI extends your reach.

Responsibilities

Ecommerce strategy and client leadership

  • Serve as the primary strategic marketing partner for ecommerce clients, leading with insight-driven recommendations to grow revenue and customer lifetime value.
  • Develop and oversee end-to-end ecommerce marketing strategies that align with each client’s business objectives, audience, and stage of growth.
  • Facilitate discovery workshops and strategy sessions with clients and internal teams to align on goals, customer journeys, and channel priorities.
  • Lead client meetings to discuss performance, strategic recommendations, and roadmap planning.
  • Present detailed project plans for ecommerce initiatives including email, content, paid media, and marketing automation.
  • Identify new opportunities that support client goals alongside the Director of Marketing.

Email marketing and lifecycle automation

  • Own email marketing strategy and execution, including campaign planning, segmentation, A/B testing, and performance optimization.
  • Build and optimize Klaviyo flows including welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back, browse abandonment, and other lifecycle automations.
  • Develop audience segmentation strategies to drive personalized, high-converting communications across the customer journey.
  • Continuously audit and optimize flow performance, email health metrics, and deliverability.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows to scale personalization across email and lifecycle programs — from copy variations to segmentation logic to send-time optimization.

Content and digital strategy

  • Develop content strategies that support ecommerce goals, including product storytelling, SEO-driven content, and on-site merchandising copy.
  • Guide content calendar development aligned to promotional calendars, product launches, and seasonal moments.
  • Collaborate with design and development teams to ensure cohesive brand and conversion-optimized experiences across all digital touchpoints.
  • Oversee or assist with CRO initiatives, including landing page strategy, UX recommendations, and on-site content.

Analytics, reporting and optimization

  • Own end-to-end tracking, reporting, and interpretation of ecommerce marketing performance through to revenue using Google Analytics, Klaviyo, and other reporting tools.
  • Monitor client KPIs including revenue, conversion rate, ROAS, AOV, LTV, email engagement, and retention metrics, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Conduct ongoing market and competitor research to inform strategy for new and existing campaigns.
  • Understand how paid media (Meta, Google, TikTok) fits into the larger ecommerce marketing ecosystem and collaborate with the paid media team on integrated strategy.

How we expect you to use AI

  • Using AI tools daily to accelerate strategy development, campaign briefing, audience research, content ideation, and performance analysis.
  • Building and refining AI-assisted workflows that scale personalization, reporting, and competitive research beyond what manual effort allows.
  • Evaluating emerging marketing technologies and AI-powered platforms and proactively bringing relevant opportunities to clients.
  • Staying current on AI developments in ecommerce marketing — predictive analytics, dynamic content, customer behavior modeling — and translating them into practical applications.
  • Documenting and sharing your AI workflows with the team so the whole agency gets better, not just you.

Team and cross-functional collaboration

  • Provide clear direction, resources, and support to ensure cross-functional teams have everything needed to execute effectively and on time.
  • Mentor and guide marketing specialists to develop their ecommerce skills and AI fluency.
  • Stay current on ecommerce best practices, platform updates (particularly Klaviyo, Shopify, and emerging tools), and industry trends.

  • Experience in regulated industries or multi-brand environments.
  • AI fluency: You use AI tools thoughtfully to improve research, analysis, production, documentation, and quality without outsourcing judgment or accountability.
