Pyxl Launches 2nd Forecastle Festival Website!
Founded in 2002, Forecastle has grown from a neighborhood event to one of the country’s most anticipated summer festivals, drawing tens of thousands of fans from across the world to Louisville’s scenic 85-acre Waterfront Park. In addition to featuring a line-up of internationally famous music acts, Forecastle has consistently promoted local artists as well as focusing on environmental activism and outdoor recreation.
We were thrilled to partner with AC Entertainment once again to design the website for this one-of-a-kind music festival.
For the 2015 festival, we updated the site with a new color scheme and responsive design. The modern colors and hand-drawn header by AC Entertainment’s Jill Sanders set the tone for this festival of the arts.
“When designing the site, we used colors and navigation that highlighted the festival’s unique aspects—the Bourbon Lodge, the focus on environmental activism and the camaraderie that such an event inspires.”
– Taylor Dudney, Graphic Designer
The website’s underwater theme reflects the location of the festival—Louisville’s Waterfront Park—and also ties in to the etymology of the festival’s name. On the high seas, a ‘forecastle’ is the portion of a ship where the crew is housed. As the festival’s website proclaims, “Hard at work in the unruly sea, it’s a place workers gather after a long day to unwind. A place where the people come together, for one whale of a good time.”
The graphics are responsive so the user has the same experience no matter if they are viewing on a desktop computer or mobile device. We also streamlined the navigation so festival-goers can quickly and easily find everything they need to know before the big day.
“We built the site with on-the-move concert-goers in mind, making it mobile responsive and pulling in social media so that you can easily access info and interact with the site leading up to the event, as well as while at the festival itself.”
– Corbin Schappel, Web Developer
