1. Start by following others in your industry, but don’t follow too many people. You don’t want to be following 1,000 people and only have 50 followers – this will make your company seem less credible. Following industry leaders and smaller local groups or people in your industry will help get your name out there and solidify your reputation. According to HubSpot, best practice is not to follow more than 25-50 users per day. Your “following” and “followers” should be pretty close in numbers.

2. Join relevant conversations among your followers and those you’re following. Throw in your two cents – when responding to someone on Twitter, use their handle in your tweet, as well as the same hashtag that they used. Build a relationship with your followers and anyone who might be searching or using that hashtag!

3. Tweet often! If you only tweet once a day, the majority of your followers will miss it. Don’t let your tweets get lost in the crowd of Twitter – tweet at least 3 to 5 times per day.

4. Provide your followers with valuable, interesting information. Have you ever been a part of a boring conversation? Don’t make your tweets a snooze-fest! Your followers don’t always want to hear about you or your company – think about how to relate to them. Tweet fun facts, relevant news stories, visual content and things that reflect your company’s culture.

As social media continues to grow, the importance of being visible on relevant social networks grows as well. Help your company stand out and develop brand awareness by being as visible as possible.
