Why do we think having an “A+” Pinterest account is important? Because the world is going visual, and Pinterest is appealing to the eye. The desktop and mobile versions of Pinterest are extremely user friendly and the idea of this visual content generated by anyone and everyone still makes us swoon. Pinterest draws in the creator, the innovator and the dreamer. This is where inspiration meets Pinspiration!
As digital marketers, you should consider amping up your Pinterest presence – people are spending tons of time and money on the platform. They’re shopping on Pinterest for products and services, and if you aren’t showing up as the life of the party – your audience may be board (pun intended).
That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it. So, how can you take your organization’s Pinterest to the next level? Read on, pinners!
Be Original
“Be yourself – everyone else is already taken.” Re-pinning – pinning content that someone else has already pinned – is great and will create a good profile for users to explore, but if you truly want to use your Pinterest as an inbound tool (to bring users to your site and convert them to leads), you should be posting your own original content, too. Blogs, products, services and industry best practices are great ways to make your Pinterest profile original and lead-generating.
The Honest Company does a great job pinning consistently unique content.
Don’t Overwhelm
If you have a set time of the week when you pin, but never get on Pinterest any other time, you might be overwhelming your users – or worse, missing them completely. Pinterest is time-based and depends upon relevancy, but it also provides variety for users. Users don’t want to scroll through 50 pins from the same person or brand about similar content before they see anything different. If you pin a lot at once, you’ll miss users who follow a lot of pinners – your content will quickly get lost at the bottom of their feeds. Try to scatter your content throughout their timeline of pins. You want users to be delighted to see an interesting pin from your company in and amongst their other content. After all, “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
Dress to Impress
Although you’re allotted 500 characters to describe your pin, Pinterest is still a primarily visual platform. This is the place for your pretty pictures and infographics. Many users will re-pin content based solely on the image, and then investigate the source or link at a later time.
Darling Magazine’s account continues to impress us.
P.S. – Make sure the content you’re re-pining is top-notch in the “looks pretty” department.
Don’t Be Boring
You get to have fun with your Pinterest profile, so make sure that people aren’t bored by your boards when they come by for a visit. There are fun ways you can make your boards unique while maintaining brand consistency and keeping them informed. Use keyword-rich titles that clearly explain what users will find once they dive in.
Spire & Co’s account leaves us feeling anything but bored:
If you aren’t sure about using Pinterest for your business or organization, think again. It’s a viable social media platform that has a lot of potential throughout many different industries. Put some thought into it, put these tips into practice and see how your profile and boards flourish.
