Pyxl Partners with CEA to Develop Official Social Media Site for 2011 International CES
Arlington, Va. and Knoxville, Tenn. – January 4, 2011 – Knoxville-based digital marketing firm, Pyxl announced today the launch of the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) “Social Circle”. The site, designed and developed by Pyxl, will serve as the official social media destination of the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES®).
With more than four decades of success, CES is produced by CEA and is the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow. Followed around the world by millions, CES unites more than 126,000 retail buyers, distributors, manufacturers, market analysts, importers, exporters and press from 140 countries each January in Las Vegas.
In association with CEA, Pyxl created a dynamic data visualization site that intelligently finds, indexes and aggregates social content from around the web on one easy-to-digest visual dashboard. By utilizing a variety of social media application programming interfaces (APIs), Pyxl custom-developed Social Circle to visualize articles, tweets, Facebook posts, photos, videos and official CES content, before, during and after the event.
“By partnering with Pyxl, we were able to create a unique application that presents a visual depiction of what is going on at the show and the buzz surrounding it,” said Jason Oxman, senior vice president, industry affairs, CEA. “The creation of Social Circle reflects our commitment to keeping our members and consumers with up-to-date information about the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.”
In addition to designing and developing Social Circle, Pyxl previously worked with CEA to re-design and develop the official CES website, CESweb.org.
“We were excited to be selected by such a significant organization, first for CESweb.org and again for Social Circle,” said Josh Phillips, president at Pyxl. “Redesigning websites and building industry-leading web applications for such a large event was a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our expertise. It was made possible by the tight collaboration between the Pyxl and CEA teams, resulting in online destinations that are user-friendly, engaging and visually appealing.”
The proliferation of social media content online has created challenges in aggregating and displaying content in a unified, visual space on the web. Social Circle provides a unique, integrated experience that allows all attendees of CES, as well as those tracking CES online, to see the online buzz surrounding the show – from Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Digg, Delicious and Reddit – all from one single web page, without having to visit each of those individual sites.
“One of the biggest challenges with Social Circle was interfacing with eight different APIs to convey CES’s worldwide influence in a truly authentic and visually-appealing way,” said Creed Huckaby, technology lead at Pyxl. “We opted to develop a complex PHP-based searching and filtering application that pinpoints the relevant social media information across many platforms and then stores the groomed information into a database to allow us to dynamically display CES’s broad reach in an interactive fashion.”
