Email is a staple tool in modern day marketing. People are bombarded with dozens of emails on a daily basis. So, how can you make yours stand out?
With an inbound marketing plan, you can cut out some of the noise and really stand out to your prospects. Grow your business by following these email marketing best practices.
Segment your Email Lists
Don’t just send out bulk emails to everyone in your contact database – segment the lists you use. You can segment based on past behavior, interests and industry, among many other things. This will allow you to send targeted emails that are more likely to engage your contacts.
Optimize for Mobile
Did you know that 65 percent of all email gets opened on a mobile device? This also means that since your users are accessing email on-the-go, you’re more likely to reach them if your emails are easily readable on a mobile device. Don’t miss a huge portion of your audience by not optimizing your emails for mobile viewing!
Use Personalization
People are more likely to open an email that comes from an actual person, as opposed to a company or a “noreply@” email address. This also holds true for using each person’s name as a greeting instead of a generic “Hi there” intro. Show your readers that there is a real human who cares behind the keyboard and use personalization tokens.
Use A/B Testing
What is A/B testing, you might ask? A/B testing allows you to perform a test to decide which of two versions – of a subject line, address you’re sending from, email copy, email design, CTA, etc. – performs better. If you use HubSpot, your A/B test will be sent to a small group of people, after which the winning version will be sent to the rest of your list. Analyzing the data from your A/B tests can help you plan out future emails’ subject lines and other factors, allowing you to create the most effective emails.
Report and Analyze
You should be constantly watching, reporting and analyzing the data from your email sends. Do you know what your open rate is? How many of your emails are bouncing and how many people are marking your emails as spam? If you’re not analyzing this data, how are you optimizing and adjusting your emails to be successful? Knowing what kind of results your emails are generating will help you continue to improve your emails and ultimately, your results.
